We are a nation of pet lovers and our devotion to dogs grows year on year. Dog owners are, shall we say, a special breed. We share that special love of dogs and know how important they are to our lives.
During lockdown, the demand for puppies has soared with people looking for to a furry companion to help them through. The BBC recently reported that ‘The price of puppies has more than doubled during lockdown with dogs costing almost £1,900 on average.’
With the news this week that Lock29 is now welcoming dogs, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on some of the reasons why we love dogs so much.
1. Loyalty
‘Dogs are loyal friends, and if they could talk, your secrets would still be safe. (If my cat could talk, I’d have to let the dog eat her.)” Richelle E. Goodrich
There are some that would say a dog is only loyal so long as it is getting food and shelter. But if you have ever known a dog and seen the reaction it has when you come home or it is reunited with a fellow four legged friend you know it is about more than that.
2. Friendship
‘A best friend is someone who loves you when you forget to love yourself.’ At your worst, your dog will still love you unconditionally, even when you don’t feel worthy of it.
3. Therapy
‘I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source.’ Doris Day
4. Health
‘People who keep dogs live longer on average than those who do not. This is not some kind of pro-canine campaigning fantasy. It is a simple medical fact that the calming influence of the company of a friendly pet animal reduces blood pressure and therefore the risk of heart attack.’ Desmond Morris
Did you know that people with dogs are shown to have less heart problems because they get regular exercise from walking their pets?
5. Unconditional Love

7. Exercise

Dogs require daily exercise, and we do too, so now you will be able to walk your dog to Lock29!
8. Happiness

If you bring your dog to Lock29, we ask you to please follow the simple doggy code of conduct outlined below to ensure an enjoyable visit for all:
• Please keep your dog on a lead at all times while visiting Lock29
• Please ensure you only bring in a maximum of 2 dogs per customer
• Please don’t leave your dog unattended or unsupervised at any time
• Please don’t let your dog cause a nuisance by barking, jumping up at or pestering fellow customers
• Please clean up after your dog as you would in public
