New murals and playful features enhance Lock29’s family-friendly focus

Lock29 has always been more than just a place to shop or grab a bite to eat; it’s a space that belongs to the community. And as part of its ongoing, organic transformation, we have continued to build on our core vision with a clear and heartfelt goal: making the venue as welcoming and family-friendly as possible.
From a dedicated play area and kid-friendly food vendors, a space that welcomes four-legged friends and free seating throughout the venue, Lock29 has become a firm favourite with families looking for somewhere relaxed, fun and local. Add to that a year-round calendar of events and entertainment, including live shows, hands-on workshops, and a cinema available for private hire, and it’s easy to see why Lock29 is considered a go-to destination for all ages.
This year, the space has taken another joyful leap forward with a vibrant new art programme designed to bring more colour, creativity and fun to the venue. Two previously plain walls in Lock29 have already become canvases for a playful mix of murals and installations that reflect the heart of Banbury, with two more walls currently in the works.

Stuart McGregor, General Manager at Lock29, explains, “We’re really excited to present the Lock29 Wall Arts as a collaborative project that truly reflects the spirit of our community. This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the buy-in, support, and creative input from our fantastic tenants”.
One corner is now home to a large-scale sketch project, featuring scenes from Banbury’s historic canal, colourful barges, and the food and drink culture that defines the town. Another wall features a bold balloon-themed installation, designed with children in mind - bright, whimsical and guaranteed to make you smile. All together, these artistic additions have brought a new warmth and vibrancy to the venue all year round.
As a father of two, Stuart knows just how important these touches can be: “As a parent, I know how valuable it is to have somewhere that’s genuinely welcoming to children and families. These aren’t just design choices; they’re decisions made with the community in mind. We want everyone to feel relaxed here, to know that this is a space for them.”
And there’s plenty more still to come. Lock29’s next big family event is just around the corner, with Halloween half-term fun already in the works. Expect a pumpkin hunt, glitter tattoos, face painting and plenty of seasonal surprises. Keep an eye on the website and socials for full details.
Lock29 continues to grow not just as a destination, but as a place where families, friends, creatives, and independents can gather together. With this latest addition of bright new art and even more family-friendly features, Lock29 is proudly shaping a future rooted in creativity, inclusion, and local pride.
