A new chapter is arriving at Lock29 this week as WanderBar officially opens its doors with a weekend of live music, drinks and laid-back summer celebrations for the whole community.
Launching on Friday 8th May at 12pm, WanderBar is the latest independent concept to join the growing line-up at Lock29, bringing a fresh social space to Banbury’s canal-side destination. Designed to feel welcoming, relaxed and effortlessly good, the new venue promises quality drinks, a vibrant atmosphere and a packed programme of events throughout the year.
The opening weekend will feature live performances from Jack Hopkinson and Frazer Lepford, alongside a menu of beers, ciders, cocktails and signature sodas. Visitors can expect an upbeat atmosphere that reflects the community spirit Lock29 has become known for.

The team behind WanderBar say the venue is about much more than drinks alone.
“We’ve always been about creating high-quality, welcoming bar experiences in places that deserve something a bit more considered. Lock29 already has a strong community feel and a great mix of independent operators, so it was the perfect place to bring something premium but still relaxed and accessible for everyone.”
With experience running pubs and mobile bar experiences across the region, WanderBar has quickly built a reputation for quality drinks and strong customer experience. At Lock29, the concept will continue to evolve with regular events including DJs, themed nights, Spritz evenings, tequila tastings and more.
The launch weekend offers visitors a first glimpse of what’s to come.
“We want people to feel like they’ve found their go-to spot, somewhere that’s effortlessly good. Great drinks, a warm atmosphere and consistently high standards but without any pretension. It should feel easy, social and enjoyable.”
The opening event is open to all, with local residents, families and visitors encouraged to head down to the waterfront, soak up the atmosphere and be part of the next stage in Lock29’s journey.
The WanderBar team added:
“It’s a big moment for us. There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes, so opening at Lock29 feels like a really positive step forward, not just for us, but for what the space is becoming.”
Over recent years, Lock29 has established itself as one of Banbury’s most exciting independent destinations, blending food, retail, entertainment and community experiences under one roof. The arrival of WanderBar marks another exciting step in that evolution, adding a brand-new social offering that complements the existing mix and gives visitors even more reasons to return.
