Canal & River Trust Welcome Event

Canal & River Trust Welcome Event

Are you interested in volunteering at the Canal and River Trust but don’t know where to start?

Drop in anytime between 10:00am and 2:00pm and discover the wide range of volunteering opportunities available in the Banbury area. Join Alex and Mike at their friendly welcome session to learn more about how you can get involved. There’ll be plenty of information about the Trust and the canal network as a whole, with lots to explore throughout the day.

Canal-Side Walk – 11:00am

Take part in a guided walk along the canal through Banbury and uncover the town’s deep-rooted connection to the waterways. You’ll hear how the canals have shaped the area and learn about the incredible difference local volunteers have made to the community. The walk will depart at 11:00am.

Children’s Lock Keeping Sessions

Perfect for budding lock keepers! These hands-on sessions give children the chance to assist a boat through a lock, learn how locks operate, and experience life on the canal.

  • Session times: 11:00am, 12:00pm & 1:00pm
  • Free to attend
  • PPE provided
  • Guided by one of our full-time lock keepers
  • Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian

Whether you’re curious about volunteering, interested in local history, or looking for a unique family activity, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming you!
